One of the more interesting comments I have received about Dark Nights was from a reader who wanted Professor Doug Lockwood to be 1.9M (6’3″) tall, carved out of solid muscle, with the tough/silent demeanor of Jack Reacher, the assassin’s mind of Mitch Rapp and the intellectual and scientific brilliance of Alan Turing. The reader made such strong case for it that I almost answered (strictly as author Chris Gray’s editor on the project) that I’d pitch it. Then it occurred to me that the reader had just described Agent Michael Bishop who figured so prominently in the book. I think that sometimes people want too much of a good thing.
